Mr. Lou Schultz has taught for over 30 years at the elementary, high school, and college levels. His degrees include mechanical and aerospace engineering from Oklahoma State University, mathematics and special education from Southeastern Louisiana University, and curriculum and instruction from Louisiana State University. Currently a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at Southeastern Louisiana University, he is actively involved in the advancement of reform-based mathematics and science, as well as, the proper integration of technology into the classroom. Mr. Schultz has been a consultant to over 100 school districts and a member of numerous committees on educational reform. He has served as a national consultant on technology design and implementation and recently co-chaired the 16th International T-Cubed (Teachers Teaching with Technology) Conference held in New Orleans. His current endeavors include research into the use of time-lapse and stop-motion photography for learning enhancement in science. In the last seven year he has been involved in 11 grants at Southeastern Louisiana University. All of these grants have dealt with mathematics, science, and the integration of technology into the classroom. |

This presentation will discuss the use of technology in teaching accounting. It will address technology both as a supplement to teaching an instructor-led class and as a replacement for the instructor-led sessions. The presentation will include on-line demonstrations of Blackboard Tools (using Blackboard 6.0) and other “publisher provided” resources for teaching Financial Accounting. Discussions will also address the use of on-line testing and issues related to ‘technical difficulties’ encountered during testing. Finally, it will also address the need for students to be aware of their own learning styles to determine whether or not they are candidates for On-Line Learning. |

This presentation will focus on best practices that have proven to ensure student success and retention. Teaching English on-line or any writing-based assignments pose unique challenges to the on-line instructor. Flexibility, hybrid classes, and use of colorful graphics can help with course design. Effective on-line resources for English will be identified. The presentation will also offer suggestions for avoiding some of the pitfalls that may be encountered when teaching an on-line course. |

The presenter will demonstrate the Classroom Performance System developed by eInstruction. The CPS system is a wireless assessment tool that can be used in all grade levels, and is useful in both secondary and postsecondary applications. Students have the opportunity to individually and anonymously test their knowledge with a hand held remote, while the instructor has immediate access to performance data both of an individual and of an entire classroom. |
